What we offer

Three ways an interpreter can support you

Every option is a language and coordination service. Medical care itself is always provided by the clinic or doctor you choose.

In-person medical interpreting

An experienced interpreter with you during clinic appointments, hospital visits, procedures and pharmacy visits, so you and your doctor understand each other clearly. Available across Kansai, subject to location and interpreter availability.

Appointment coordination

Published price: US$70 for clinic appointment coordination, including one follow-up call; each additional follow-up call is US$35. That price covers a simple appointment request plus one follow-up call — complex bookings, multiple clinics, document pre-checks, rescheduling and urgent requests are quoted separately. The fee is payable upfront; it is refunded in full if the clinic cannot accept the booking for lack of availability, and is otherwise non-refundable. Cancellation and refund conditions are set out in our Terms of Use and Commercial Transactions disclosure. All bookings are subject to clinic acceptance.

How it works

Arrange a medical interpreter in three steps

Submit your request

Tell us the language, appointment date and time, location or online format, expected duration and the type of healthcare service.

Receive confirmation and quotation

We confirm interpreter availability, the service scope, applicable fees and cancellation terms, before anything is booked or charged.

Attend your appointment

Your assigned interpreter provides language support within the confirmed scope, in person or remotely, and can continue with follow-up visits.

A booking is complete only once the interpreter and, where relevant, the healthcare provider have both confirmed availability. We tell you as soon as everything is confirmed.

Why MedicTranslate

Why a human medical interpreter matters

Medical conversations carry nuance, emotion and consequence. A human interpreter in the room, or on the call, protects all three.

Human-reviewed quality

Experienced professional interpreters and human-validated processes, so terminology stays consistent and meaning is not lost between languages.

Cultural sensitivity

Interpreters familiar with Japanese healthcare settings, etiquette and terminology, so the conversation works in both directions.

Confidentiality by design

Personal and appointment information is handled in line with our Privacy Policy, and our interpreters work under confidentiality obligations.

Languages

Your language, one coordinator

Published availability covers the nine Japanese language pairs below, in either direction. Other languages may be available on request and are confirmed individually before booking.

FAQs

Questions people ask before booking

How do I book a medical interpreter in Japan?

Send us a request with the language, appointment date and time, location or remote format, expected duration and the type of service. We reply within one business day with availability, scope and a quotation. The booking is confirmed once you accept the quotation and the interpreter's availability is confirmed.

Can an interpreter attend a hospital appointment with me?

Yes. In-person interpreting is available across Kansai for clinic appointments, hospital visits and pharmacy visits, subject to interpreter availability and any facility rules. Where in-person attendance is not possible, remote interpreting by video or phone is usually an option.

Can the interpreter give me medical advice?

No, and this matters. Interpreters facilitate communication between you and your healthcare provider. They do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and they do not make decisions on your behalf. All clinical interpretation of findings must come from your doctor — we help you ask your questions clearly.

How much does a medical interpreter cost?

Published pricing starts at US$360 for a minimum booking of 3 hours, with additional time at US$60 per hour and a US$50 travel surcharge for in-person bookings 15–30 km from Kobe. Travel within 15 km of Kobe is included. Travel beyond 30 km, unusual access requirements and cancellation terms are confirmed in writing in your quotation before booking.

Which languages do you interpret?

Published availability covers Japanese paired with English, German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian or Persian, in either direction. Other languages may be available on request; contact us first and we will confirm whether a suitable interpreter is available for your requested date and location.

What happens if my appointment is rescheduled?

Tell us as soon as you know. We handle the reschedule communication with the clinic in Japanese where we arranged the booking, and we re-confirm interpreter availability for the new time. Any fee implications follow the cancellation terms in your quotation.

Are remote sessions recorded?

No. Sessions are not recorded by default. Recording only occurs if all participants, including the healthcare provider, expressly agree in advance.

How is my personal and medical information protected?

Your enquiry form asks only for what we need to quote: contact details, language, timing, location and the general type of service. Please do not include detailed medical records in the enquiry — where documents are needed, existing account holders can upload them through our authenticated customer platform. See our Privacy Policy for information about handling, access and retention.

Do you also translate documents?

Yes, separately from interpreting. Medical records, prescriptions, referral letters and results reports are handled by our medical translation service, with certification options where required.

Tell us about your appointment

Language, date, location or online, and how long you expect it to take. We reply within one business day with availability and a confirmed quotation.

Please keep enquiries free of detailed medical records; we will tell you the secure way to share documents if they are needed.
